Ali al-Ahmed is a Saudi scholar and writer who is an expert in Saudi Arabia's political affairs including the history of the Saudi royal family, Islamic movements and Wahhabism, Saudi-American foreign relations and the repressive social and political conditions in the Kingdom.  He is founder and current director at the Institute for Gulf Affairs in Washington DC, a nonpartisan institution that analyzes the political climate throughout the Gulf region. Ali has been an invited speaker at Princeton, Amnesty International, the Hudson Institute and other institutions, and has also consulted for CBS, CNN, PBS, Fox and other major news outlets.  He holds a degree in journalism and an MA in international finance from Saint Thomas University in Minnesota.
